YOUR QUESTIONS
Common questions
Straightforward answers to common questions and what to expect.
Do I need a referral?+
No, you can see Dr. Johnnie without a referral. While many of his patients are referred by PCPs and specialists, as a chiropractic physician, he can be the first doctor you see for a neck or back problem.
What can I expect on my first visit?+
Dr. Johnnie will perform a thorough evaluation to determine the cause of your pain and discuss recommendations to get you feeling better. The majority of patients are treated on the first visit unless further investigation is needed to make a diagnosis.
Will I need X-rays or an MRI?+
Most neck and back conditions can be accurately diagnosed through the history and exam. We only recommend imaging if additional information is needed – not as a routine step.
How many visits will I need?+
It depends on your condition and how you respond. Our goal is to help you get better as quickly as possible in the least amount of visits. We only recommend the next visit if truly needed.
Do I have to be “cracked”?+
No, we seldom use high-velocity spinal manipulation and focus on slow, low-force treatments. We will always discuss preferences with our patients on how they receive care, assuming no contraindications based on their condition.
Do you accept insurance?+
We charge a simple and affordable flat fee per visit. Most patients find our fee comparable or less than traditional copays without the hassle of deductibles and surprise bills. We do accept and bill Medicare, and we are happy to provide you with what is needed to submit to your insurance carrier.
What do you mean by short-term care?+
Most neck and back pain episodes can be helped in just a handful of visits targeted to the right diagnosis. Every patient responds differently to care but the goal is always the least that is necessary. We don’t recommend long-term treatment plans in our practice.
